Planet Pleasures Balls and Stars Mini

(pic from the Perch Store)

Rating: 2/10. I don't really chew on this much, just a little bit on the strings. It is relatively new..so it may take a while.

Mel's Comments: Well priced, really cheep. Also its a good company.

Avaliable at: the Perch Store.

Foraging Pots

Homemade

Rating: 3/10, I don't really understand what t his toy is about... I see Mel put food in there, but i can't figure it out. I just play with the pots by pulling them and watching them clink against each other.

Mel's Comments: Great foraging toy for those that actually understand it. Its interesting for the birds and entertaining. It stimulates their mind and physical self to try and stabilize the pots.

Composed of: Mini Wooden Pots, Beads, Marbella Beads, Plastic Buttons, Jute, and a Wooden Shape.

Chain Gang

Homemade

Ratings: 6/10. Its fun to play with balls that won't fall to their death, but maybe that takes the fun out of it... I wish these were the kind that had the bells on the inside. The green chain is nice...

Mel's Comments: There are a bunch of toys like this in stores at relatively "expensive" prices. I made this for probably a dollar or two, if you divide all the costs of the parts. The chain was cut by my PVC pipe cutter, which made it really easy to cut, then i just inserted the slit into the ball so no toes would get caught. The itty bitty links were just extra, I kinda like it without them.

Composed of: Wiffle balls, chain, and itty bitty links

Mini Piñata

(pic from the Squawk Store)

Ratings: 6/10, Chewable! Like to chew on it once in a while. Eventually I'll shred it. *muahaha*

Mel's Comments: Pretty Cheep Destroyable toy.

Avaliable at: The Squawk Store

Jack

Homemade:

Ratings: 1/10, I don't know what to do with this guy... I play with his arms once, but never touched it ever again. He kinda scares me... and its like a miniature human. That hat of his is strange...

Mel's Comments: Total failure, I was going to make a "Jill" to go with it, but after seeing how Zippo reacted to this guy, decided not to even try it. Pretty simple to make. Just strung jute through the holes in the ball and tied beads on it.

Composed of: Wiffle balls, mini wooden pot, pony beads and Jute.

Materials Avaliable at: Craft stores, Walmart, and the Dollar Tree.

Wiffle Ball w/ Leather and beads

Homemade

Ratings: 7/10 in the foot toy category, Love to bang my beak against this and send it flying! I can easily pick it up since its so light and throw it off my cage. I don't really chew on the leather string much.. but its nice to have.

Mel's Comments: Super easy and cheep to make. Can be used for the wee birds all the way to medium size birds.

Composed of: Wiffle Ball, Leather strip (vegetable tanned), and pony beads.

Materials avaliable at: Dollar Tree (wiffle balls avaliable seasonally), Michael's or other craft stores, bird fairs (leather).

Atomic Ducky

Homemade

Ratings: 6/10, I don't play with this much, but sometimes the long strands of beads will attract me towards it. I like the munch ball on the bottom and like to toss it around. Sometimes I'll even perch on the plastic parts on the top.

Mel's Comments: Easy to make. Its made out of an Atomic Ducky Rattle from the Dollar Tree, pony beads, marbella rings (1/2"), mini munch balls, wooden beads, and some jute twine. It can also be used as a foot toy, the duck itself, for larger birds.

Materials avaliable at: Michael's or any other craft store, Dollar Tree, California Bird Nerds or any other online bird toy supplier.

Insight Activitoys Foot Toys Small Star & Wheel / Small Flower & Roller

(pics from Petco.com)

Rating: 8/10, Love these foot toys! I like to fling them off my cage. They are light and easy to play with. Sometimes I even dunk them in the tub. Hehe.

Mel's Comments: The flower foot toy was discovered to have a kind of "cement-like" inside, when cracked open, that can easily damage a parrot's health if swallowed. Be careful when offering that foot toy to them, be sure to watch them at all times with it. The others as far as a I know are safe.

Avaliable at: Petco and The Perch Store

Insight ActiviToys Tumble Bell Bird Toy

(pic from Petco.com)

Rating: 6/10, I don't play with it much. Once in a while, but it doesn't fascinate me so much compared to other toys. I've slept on top of this one also.

Mel's Comments: Also around $3-4. Used to be Happy's toy. Both birds were not too fond of it.

Avaliable at: Petco

Insight ActiviToys Bell with Pendulot Bird Toy

(pic from Petco.com)

Ratings: 9/10, This was a "hand-me-down" toy from the late Happy. However, I still love it. I use my feet to pull the chain sometimes too, just like a big parrot! I can see myself in the bell and I can talk to it all day! Sometimes I'll even get up on top of it and sleep on there. Weird, huh? But a bird's gotta do what a bird's gotta do to get to the top of everything.

Mel's Comments: Easy to clean, I bought it at Petco, one of the "expensiver" toys, I've bought (around $3 something). Well worth it though.

Avaliable at: Petco

Accordion of Sticks

Composed of: S.S. Wire and Popsicle sticks

Rating: 2/10, I hardly play with this at all. It mostly just collects pooh when its in my cage. Occasionally I'll gnaw on it a bit, but not often.

Mel's Comments: This one was a dud. Although easy to make, which major chewers would probably enjoy.

The Rainbow

My first toy post!

Composed of: This is a homemade toy made from popsicle sticks, jute twine, S.S. wire, pony beads, and two green bells.

Rating: 10/10, I love the bells! I've played with them so much that the color is beginning to chip off of them. Mel will have to replace them for me soon. I don't care much for the popsicle sticks, as it was the intended purpose for the toy, but i do use them to swing the bells back over toward me when they are too far. ^_^

Mel's Comments: Tedious to make, drilling all those holes in the sticks. However, S.S. wire is the only way to make it stay in that "rainbow" shape. I tried to make it with jute twine instead of wire and it just flopped over. This is not a "full" rainbow, because a full one would be really big. Chewers would enjoy this.

A New Start

Alright, my mom just got me a cool new blog so I can post all about my toys. Some that are bought and some that mom has made for me.Since she hasn't found a site that is specified solely to the little guys, like me. I will tell her what to type so I can tell all you birds, what kind of toys are the new cool things out there. Ratings and my thoughts about the toys will be posted. Also later on, I will probably post about bird supplies in general too! Like perches, gyms, travel carriers, food, etc. So watch out I'm coming in for a landing!
